Author: Haljala Gymnasium Title: Europallet project "From old into new" Subjects: English, Estonian, mathematics, computing, handicraft, work and technology class The present learning scenario is designed for all grades in the framework of the curricular topic "Estonia, our home". It adheres to the methodology of project-based learning and encourages entrepreneurship. Work is divided between classes and further between smaller groups. The teacher assists in generating ideas, forming groups, distributing the tasks, carrying out the work and presenting. Students study various possibilities of making furniture out of europallets and realize the design chosen by their class. Each class is divided into smaller groups with more specific tasks, e.g. drawing up designs, building the item (incl. painting), sewing pillows, taking photos, blogging and presenting. Parents and local companies could also be involved in the activities. Role of techonology: ICT-tools (computers, tablets, smartphones, photo and video cameras) are used for generating ideas, documenting the work and blogging (blogger.com). Practical activities result in one furniture item per class which will be placed in some public space around the schoolhouse, so they could be presented to and comfortably used by the whole school.
